Michael Horesh

Michael came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the University of California, Berkeley where he majored in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Before attending Mount Sinai, Michael worked as a scholar in the Post Baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) in the department of Microbiology. He entered the MD/PhD program in 2017, defending his PhD thesis in immunogenetics in 2023. Michael has received the Science and Leadership Merit Award, the Award of Excellence for Student Leadership, multiple awards for outstanding scientific presentations and excellence in research, and he graduates with distinction in research. In addition to his academic achievements, Michael has served as a student-interviewer and voting member on the MD/PhD admissions committee, worked as a mentor for non-traditional medical school applicants, acted as co-president of the Mount Sinai Latino Medical Student Association, and continuously mentored trainees within the graduate and medical schools at Mount Sinai.

Michael would like to thank his husband (Elan), mom (Maria), grandparents (Rodolfo y Magdalena), siblings (Francis, Frankie, Anthony, and Peach), MD/PhD program leadership (specifically Talia Swartz, Margaret Baron, and Bianca Taylor-Starobin), PhD mentor (Dusan Bogunovic), faculty mentors (Gary Butts, Ann-Gel Palermo, Valerie Parkas, David Muller and Terry Krulwich), and countless faculty, staff, classmates, and friends who have been integral to his development as a physician scientist.

Michael will graduate with his MD and PhD degrees and continue his residency training in Anesthesiology at the Mount Sinai Hospital.
