Simran Malhotra

Simran Malhotra graduated summa cum laude from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Global Public Health Sciences and minors in Creative Writing and Healthy Futures. She was accepted into the FlexMed program and began her medical training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2020.

Throughout medical school, Simran distinguished herself through her deep commitment to patient-centered care, exceptional attention to detail, and a compassionate, thoughtful interviewing style. Her peers and faculty alike recognized these qualities, culminating in her induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

As part of her MD–MSCR dual degree, Simran was awarded an NIH TL1 predoctoral training grant through the Patient-Oriented Research Training and Leadership Program. Her thesis, conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Audree B. Tadros at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, focused on the impact of Medicaid expansion on the management and mortality of locally advanced breast cancer.

Simran extends heartfelt thanks to her mentors, faculty, family, and friends—the village that has supported her every step of the way. She will graduate with her combined MD–MSCR degree and begin her general surgery residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson.

Simran Malhotra is receiving the:

Mrs. David A. Dreiling Surgery Prize in Memory of her Mother, Florence L. Oppenheimer
