Alex came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Roy & Diana Vagelos Molecular Life Sciences Scholar and simultaneously completed a Bachelor’s degree in physics, biochemistry, and biophysics as well as a Master’s degree in physics. He was accepted to Icahn Mount Sinai through the FlexMed early acceptance program and deferred matriculation to work as a management consultant at Oliver Wyman and Booz Allen Hamilton, entering the MD program in 2022.
While at Icahn Mount Sinai, Alex was deeply involved with the BioMedical Engineering and Imaging Institute (BMEII) since his first year, working in Dr. Xueyan Mei’s group on applying machine learning to medical imaging. During his time at BMEII, he co-authored several studies and received a Radiological Society of North America Medical Student Research Grant. He was a Targeted Healthcare Innovation Fellow through Sinai BioDesign, working with a team of classmates to place second in the Icahn Mount Sinai Pitch Challenge.
He also volunteered as a clinic manager in the Mount Sinai Human Rights Program, served as the Financial Services Committee Chair on Student Council, co-led the diagnostic radiology interest group, worked as a radiology reading room coordinator, and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Alex would like to thank his family and friends, especially his parents Yan Lin and Zhiqiang Zhou, his brother Andrew, and his partner Julia, for their incredible and endless support. He would also like to thank his mentors at Icahn Mount Sinai, who shaped his time here and beyond, especially Dr. Xueyan Mei, Dr. Mingqian Huang, and Dr. Zahi Fayad.
Alex will graduate with his MD degree and continue his residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
