Meet 2026 Award Recipient

Brian Johnson

Brian came to the Icahn School of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in Neuroscience, formerly known as the Biological Basis of Behavior. Before attending Icahn Mount Sinai, Brian worked as a Post-Baccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) Fellow at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. He entered the MD program at Icahn Mount Sinai in 2022.

While here, Brian served as a co-leader of the Icahn Mount Sinai chapter of the Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN). He conducted research as a member of the Epilepsy Outcomes Group under the guidance of Dr. Leah Blank, publishing two articles in the peer-reviewed journal Epilepsia and presenting original work at the 2024 annual meeting of the American Neurological Association (ANA). He contributed to the East Harlem Health Outreach Partnership (EHHOP), the student-run, physician-supervised free clinic across his four years of medical school as a Junior Clinician, Chronic Care Senior Clinician, and Teaching Senior. He took an interest in medical ethics education and research, working as a co-leader of the Medical Ethics Student Organization (MESO) and completing a month-long fellowship focused on Neuroethics at the Ethox Centre at Oxford University.

Brian would like to endlessly thank his family, friends, colleagues, mentors, and faculty members at Icahn Mount Sinai, especially those in the Departments of Medical Education, Neurology, Bioethics, and Population Health, who provided the foundation of compassion and encouragement that brought him to this point.

Brian will graduate with his MD degree and continue his residency training in Neurology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
