Lathan Liou

Lathan came to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai through FlexMed from Pomona College, where he studied Molecular Biology and Statistics. Before attending Icahn Mount Sinai, Lathan earned an MPhil in Epidemiology from the University of Cambridge and worked as a Data Scientist for Merck. He entered the MD program in 2022.

While at Icahn, Lathan created and taught the R for Medical Students workshop. He also created the MD+ Datathon, a national data science training initiative for early clinical trainees, as chair of MD+ (501(c)3). He led various research projects within statistical genetics, malnutrition risk prediction modeling, and cardiovascular risk prediction modeling, publishing over 30 articles in journals including Nature, npj Digital Medicine, Circulation, and Cell Trends in Genetics. He volunteered as co-founder of the Mount Sinai First-Generation group, student representative for the Admissions Committee, and co-executive producer of the Icahn Mount Sinai Music Video. He was recognized as a Paul & Daisy Soros Finalist, Tylenol Scholar, Glorney-Raisbeck Scholar, and an American Heart Association Jeremiah and Rose Stamler New Investigator.

Lathan would like to thank his fiancée, family, and friends for all the support to come this far. He would also like to thank his mentors and faculty members at Icahn Mount Sinai for investing their energy and time into making his medical education as enriching and enjoyable as possible.

Lathan will graduate with his MD degree and continue his residency training in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Brigham - Brigham and Women's Hospital.
